Acting National Police Commissioner officially hands over the Sword Of Command to Limpopo Provincial Commissioner

Limpopo; 31 March 2017; The Acting National Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khomotso Phahlane officially handed over the Sword-of-Command to the Limpopo Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba during a medal parade ceremony this morning at Seshego stadium in Polokwane.

The medal parade is held to honour and appreciate loyal and long serving members of the South African Police Service throughout the province.

Today’s ceremony honoured 161 men and women who have put their lives on the line, serving our people for  10, 20, 30 and even 40 years of service to ensure that South Africans are and feel safe.

The handing over of the Sword-Of-Command, is an honour bestowed upon a commanding officer to lead by example and contribute towards ensuring the eradication of crime.

Lieutenant General Khomotso Phahlane urged the current Provincial Commissioner , Lieutenant General Nneke Jimmy Ledwaba, to lead by example to ensure the eradication of crime in the Limpopo province. He singled out Vhuwani and the scourge of mob justice throughout the province.

He further appealed to all community leaders, religious leaders as well as community members to take their rightful position in ensuring that  they work together with members of the South African Police Service with a view to prevent and combat crime and contribute towards ensuring a thorough investigation of crime in the province.

“Today's event symbolises our appreciation for all the work you have put in serving and protecting citizens of this country.

You are an inspiration to the young generation and should always be proud of that. It is these medals that must inspire you to stick to our Back-to-Basics approach in policing which is now entrenched within each and every policing environment,” said Acting National Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khomotso Phahlane.

During the ceremony, the Acting National Police Commissioner thanked the out-going Minister of Police Honourable Nkosinathi Nhleko and his deputy Honourable Maggie Sotyu for steering the organisation over the past few years.

He also welcomed the newly appointed Minister of Police, Honourable Fikile Mbalula and his Deputy Bongani Mgoki into the organisation.

He wished them success in working together with the South African Police Service to ensure that they continue to ensure that South Africans are and feel safe.

The event was attended by amongst others, the MEC of Transport and Community Safety in the province Mme Ndalane, National Deputy Commissioners, Divisional Commissioners, Provincial Commissioners as well as other personnel within the South African Police Service.
