On Tuesday, 27 September 2016 the Minister of Water and Sanitation (DWS) Ms. Nomvula Mokonyane will launch the Sterkspruit Water Treatment Works in Sterkspruit. The water treatment works was upgraded and additional infrastructure constructed to increase capacity to meet the growing demand for potable water.
The Minister together with the Executive Mayors from Joe Gqabi District and Senqu Municipalities will unveil a plaque and tour the Sterkspruit Water Treatment Works before addressing the community.
The project will benefit the people of Joe Gqabi District Municipality. The project was funded through the Municipal Water Infrastructure Grant (MWIG) and the Department of Water and Sanitation.
In total an amount of R124 585 803-00 was spent on upgrading the Sterkspruit Water Treatment Works. The project was done in different phases and started in 2012. It was completed towards the end of 2015. A total of 130 jobs were created during the refurbishment and construction of the project.
