Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) today launched the next in its suite of innovative products, designed to make information easily accessible. The original app was launched on 30 October 2012, simultaneous with the launch of the Census 2011 results, the first set of data that was made available on the app.
Mobile phone technology has expanded rapidly around the globe over the past 20 years, and there is now a mobile phone in the hands of almost every South African citizen. Since the launch of the smartphones in 2007, the mobile phone revolution has turned into a mobile computing revolution. People all over the world increasingly have access to advanced computing power in the palm of their hands.
The first Stats SA app was only available on an iPad. The new app can be downloaded onto any smart device that runs on an iOS, Android or Windows platform.
The mobile application offers similar functionality as the website, with added features tailor-made for mobile devices. With the app you will be able to get the latest statistical information, articles and indicators, in the palm of your hand. Key features include:
- Offline and online access to publications
- Key statistics
- Data stories and breaking news
- Location based data services
The Stats SA app will be available for download from the different app stores from 02 December 2015. (Apple Store, Windows Store and Android’s Google Play Store).
