Statistician-General to release the Financial Census of Municipalities, 2015 results

The Statistician-General of South Africa, Dr Pali Lehohla, will release the results of the 2015 Financial Census of Municipalities at a media briefing to be held on Wednesday, 29 June 2016 in Pretoria. The survey collected a variety of financial information from local, district and metropolitan municipalities.

The results present various financial statistics on municipalities in South Africa, including income sources (such as government grants, property rates and service charges) as well income levels. The report will also outline how municipalities spent the money received through grants and subsidies, and generated through rates and service charges.

Other municipal financial information such as asset-liability ratios, volumes of bad debts, expenditure on personnel costs and remuneration of councillors will also be presented at the media briefing.
