MEC Fikile Xasa briefs media on Eastern Cape state of readiness for Local Government Election, 27 Jul

Eastern Cape Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Fikile Xasa to pronounce on the state of readiness for Local Government Elections in the Eastern Cape Province

The countdown to the fifth democratic Local Government Elections (LGE) on 3 August 2016 has begun in earnest to deliver free and fair elections in the Eastern Cape Province. Today, it is nine days (9) before the people of the Eastern Cape Province in particular and South Africa in general, cast their votes.

“The preamble of our Constitution states that South Africa belongs to all those who live in it, united in our diversity. Therefore every citizen has a right to vote in free, fair and regular local government elections whose outcome will provide democratic and accountable government to local communities.”

“In this regard, our government in collaboration with our key stakeholders including the South African Police Services (SAPS) has a role to entrench its authority at all times so that all South Africans exercise their right to vote without fear of favour,” said Cogta MEC Fikile Xasa.

It is against this background that MEC Xasa convenes a session to brief the media on the Provincial state of readiness for the LGE on 27 July 2016, at the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, City Hall, Jenny’s Room from 10h00 to 10h30.
