Sport Committee Chairperson Congratulates Caster Semenya for Gold Medal Win at Rio
The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Sport and Recreation, Ms Beauty Dlulane, wishes to congratulate Caster Semenya for winning a gold medal for South Africa at the Rio Olympics, setting a national record by winning in one minute 55.28 seconds in the 800m women’s marathon.
“We are very proud of Caster Semenya. She has added another gold medal to South Africa at the Rio Olympics. Her hard work, commitment, determination and focus is an inspiration to all of us. We are really impressed by her achievement,” said Ms Dlulane.
Ms Dlulane would also like to congratulate Sunette Viljoen for winning a silver medal in the women’s javelin throw and Henrie Schoeman for winning a bronze medal in the men’s individual triathlon. “South Africa has won 10 medals (2 gold medals, 6 silver medals and 2 bronze medals) which is the target that was set by the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) before leaving for the Olympics,” she said.
