The Portfolio Committee on Police will on Tuesday, 18 October, consider the matter concerning Mr Robert McBride, the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) Executive Director, as referred by the Speaker.
The Chairperson of the Committee, Mr Francois Beukman, said the Police Minister, Mr Nathi Nhleko, had written to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Ms Baleka Mbete, requesting parliamentary intervention on the IPID executive director matter in light of the recent Constitutional Court ruling.
“The Speaker referred the matter to the Committee, which resolved to consider the matter on Tuesday. The Committee received the copy of the letter from the Minister to the Speaker and related documentation,” Mr Beukman said.
Mr Beukman said that the Committee is obliged in terms of Rule 227 of the National Assembly to deal with matters that are referred to the Committee. “It is important that the Committee ensures that the relevant matter is properly addressed in line with the oversight role of the Committee and the ruling made by the Constitutional Court.”
