The South African Legislative Sector hosts National Women’s Parliament – commemorating 60th Anniversary of the Women’s March

Venue: St George's Hotel in Pretoria
The South African Legislative Sector comprising Provincial Legislatures and led by the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa, will host a National Women’s Parliament on 31 August and 1 September in Pretoria.
Participants will meet for the two-day event to mark the 60th anniversary of the Women’s March. The event will be held under the theme: “Following up on our commitments to the people: Women United in Moving South Africa Forward”.
The two-day event is aimed at celebrating the success of women’s struggles, raising awareness about the role women have played in bringing about gender equality and to take stock of the progress made alongside the challenges that still impede the socio-economic emancipation of women.
The participants include amongst others, Members of Parliament, Members of Provincial Legislatures, Cabinet Ministers, Veterans of the 1956 march, Women in Business and civil society organisations.
Specific topics for discussion are:
- The gender implications of poverty, inequality and unemployment.
- The impact of land reform, restitution, redistribution and security of tenure for women.
- The gender implications of social cohesion and national building.
The programme includes an opening ceremony, dialogue sessions, and a plenary.
