Department of Small Business Development delivers economic empowerment in KZN community
The Department of Small Business Development continues to improve the lives of rural communities by delivering sustainable economic interventions, Members of the media are invited to join the department in rural KwaZulu-Natal to witness the first harvest at Ulimo Agricultural Cooperative, an agricultural empowerment initiative funded by the Department of Small Business Development.
This important milestone is a product of a partnership between the department, the Muziwabantu Local Municipality and the community of Kwa-Jali. This will also be an opportunity for the department to assess the impact of its funding interventions and general support.
The department is supporting twelve cooperatives in the area to the tune of R4.2 million. The funding for the Ulimo Cooperative, whose core business is fresh farm produce, is mainly for the installation of irrigation systems, provision of seedlings and fencing. The cooperative also aims to utilise available resources to empower its members and locals with modern farming skills through collaboration with a technical partners.
The department believes this cooperative will play an important role in stimulating local economic development and create employment in this economically-depressed community. The details of the event are as follows:
