Six arrested in Limpopo for licensing fraud
Six Vehicle Testing Stations employees have been arrested for fraud and corruption in Lephalale, Limpopo today.
The six who include four vehicle examiners and cashiers were nabbed members of the Road Traffic Management Corporation’s corruption fight unit, the National Traffic Anti-Corruption Unit and the Hawks pounced on the privately Lephalale Testing Station.
It is alleged that the six collided in issuing roadworthy certificates to vehicles that they never tested. False identity documents were allegedly used to generate the certificates on the National Traffic Information System.
This follows the arrest of seven employees linked to a fraudulent activity at Thusalushaka Testing Station in Musina last month.
The six suspects are expected to remain in custody for at least seven days before being granted. Bail will be opposed when they make their first appearance tomorrow.
The RTMC has welcomed the arrests and said this will assist in dissuading people from using un-roadworthy vehicles in the coming Easter period.
“It is significant that these arrests are taking place on the same day that the national Easter Road Safety Campaign is launched. Fighting fraud and corruption is a critical part of our drive to make roads safer. We reiterate to all our road users to play their part to reduce road carnage in our country,” Msibi said.
Investigation is continuing and more arrests are expected.
