Labour postpones sentencing of Maxwell Ramaphosa and Samuel Mfeleng

Sentencing in the Ramaphosa and Mfeleng matter guilty of defrauding  Department of Labour’s Compensation Fund postponed

The sentencing of Maxwell Ramaphosa (40) and Samuel Mfeleng (40) accused of defrauding the Department of Labour’s Compensation Fund (CF) of R2,1 million was once again today postponed in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court.

The former employees of the Compensation Fund have been found guilty for defrauding the Fund. The accused were facing 15 counts of fraud and 26 counts of money laundering. The duo are out on an extended bail of R3000 each.

Magistrate (Ms) Fikile Ntlati postponed the matter because Mr Fakude, an attorney representing Mfeleng was said to have injured his leg and could not walk. Last month the matter was postponed because Ramaphosa  failed to appear in court and his legal representative Mr Nkuna said his client was ill.

Ramaphosa and Mfeleng’s co-accused, Jurry Sehunoe, a physiotherapist operating from Rustenburg in North West has pleaded guilty in the matter and was sentenced to five years suspended.

The matter has now been postponed to 9 June 2016

The Compensation Fund is a public entity under the administration of Department of Labour responsible to cover workers injured during work or who sustain diseases during the course of their occupation.
