Second Chance matric support programme roadshow in Potchefstroom
The Minister of Basic Education, Mrs Angie Motshekga will be taking the Second Chance Matric Support Road Show to Potchefstroom, in the Ventersdorp/Tlokwe NW405 Municipality in the North West.
The Minister will be accompanied by the Executive Mayor, Mr Kgotso Khumalo.
The aim of the Second Chance Matric Programme is to provide support to learners who have not been able to meet the requirements of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) or the extended Senior Certificate (SC), thereby meeting the goals of the NDP and the sector thus increasing learner retention.
The National Senior Certificate (NSC) is an absolute necessity for meaningful citizenry, however, despite the many intensified efforts by the Department of Basic Education (DBE) to support more learners to achieve a NSC; many leave school without this vital certification.
Full-time and Part-time learners registered to write the 2017 November NSC Examinations have shown huge knowledge and skills gaps, therefore the DBE’s Second Chance Matric Support Programme provides support to these learners who require additional revision support in preparation of these examinations.
The objective of the Second Chance Matric Support Programme is to offer young people who have either failed to meet the requirements of the NSC; need to improve their matric qualification for further studies; have opted to write the NSC examinations on a Part-time basis; or are Full-time candidates that just need additional revision and examination preparation tools, the chance to obtain their matric certificates with the necessary grades to improve their lives and achieve their dreams.
In light of the above, the Minister invites all those who are interested in finding out more information about the Second Chance Matric Support Programme to the North West Roadshow where the Minister will be addressing our young people and inform them of the various resources that are available to them through the Second Chance Matric Support Programme and to motivate them to become the future leaders of South Africa through embracing all opportunities that Government is providing to them in preparation for their NSC Examinations.
