MEC Helen Sauls-August hands over house at Middelburg, 11 Mar

The family of seasonal farm workers in Middelburg will taste a better life when they receive a new house from the Eastern Cape Human Settlements MEC Helen Sauls-August on Thursday, 11 March 2016.

Gogo Minah 109 years- old, currently resides in two roomed house extended with corrugated iron at KwaNonzame in Middelburg. Gogo Minah depends on old age Government Grant and the entire family depends on her grant.

Gogo Minah’s plight was raised during the EXCO outreach and the department responded speedily to provide a decent home for her and the family.

They are a family of five (Gogo, Son, Daughter in-law, Granddaughter, Grandson). Both her son and daughter in-law work in farms seasonally.

The Minah family is one of 693 destitute families that have benefitted from the destitute and vulnerable groups programme in the Province this financial year(2015/16). A further 2032 subsidies for destitute people have been approved for construction of houses.
