Search for Western Cape's top agri employee kicks off next week

The search for the Western Cape’s top agriculture employee will officially be launched next week.

On Monday (13 June 2016), Alan Winde, MEC of Economic Opportunities, and Shoprite will launch the 2016 Western Cape Prestige Agri Awards, previously known as the Farmworker of the Year Awards.

Over 6000 agriculture employees have entered the competition since 2002. Entries increased by 20% last year. In 2015, Alexious Shoko, from Piket Bo-berg, was named as the Farm Worker of the Year.

Shoko is an assistant production manager at the Mouton’s Valley farm, where he has been working for the past seven years.

As part of the launch, MEC Winde and representatives from Shoprite, will outline the qualities judges will be looking out for in the province’s best agriculture employee, and announce the prizes for this year.
