Science and Technology celebrates completion of science research internships programme, 26 Feb

Growing the knowledge pool in South Africa

The Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the National Research Foundation (NRF) are celebrating the successful completion of more than 700 science research internships across the country.

The DST-NRF internship programme is aimed at building research capacity and improving innovation development in the country.

The new cohort of knowledge workers, who have just completed 12-month internships at various institutions around the country, will receive certificates as evidence of the experience they have gained.

The DST Deputy Director-General: Research Development and Support, Dr Thomas Auf der Heyde, will address the young researchers at a ceremony in Cape Town tomorrow (26 February).

A similar event was held in Johannesburg last week, attended by over 500 interns.

The internship programme assists young graduates by offering them exposure to research projects. This experience is a critical part of developing the science, technology and innovation skills needed to grow South Africa's economy.
