MEC Mmathabo Leeto congratulates SATMA winner, Rorisang Motseki

The Free State MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Mrs. N.S. Leeto, would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Rorisang “Jah-Rose” Motseki for winning the Best Praise Singer Award at the 2016 South African Traditional Music Awards, held in Richards Bay on 29 October 2016.

Born and bred in Tikwana, Hoopstad on 17 June 2006, Rorisang “Jah-Rose” Motseki is the second born child of Benny and Maria Motseki who are also active in the music industry as recording artists. Rorisang is a Grade 4 learner at Tlamanang Primary School in Hoopstad and lives with her grandparents. The 10 year old is also a seasoned 200m athlete and has represented her school at various athletic meetings across the province.

Rorisang began singing at the tender age of 5 at school and at church because she drew her passion for music from her parents. She was encouraged by her father to sing gospel music and in 2016 her father wrote a song for her. He was also very instrumental in the recording of her two singles, Modimo o phelang and Jobo.

After entering the SATMA Awards as a nominee, Rorisang was ultimately announced as the 2016 SATMA winner for Best Praise Singer Award on 29 October 2016 in Richards Bay, much to the delight of the people of the Free State and music enthusiasts in general.

“We are immensely proud as the people of the Free State to have been represented so well by a talented individual in the form of Rorisang “Jah-Rose” Motseki. I, therefore, wish to thank all the people who supported her. Rorisang is one of many talented Free State artists and, hopefully, we will have many more artists like her to emerge and excel at a national stage, as she is currently doing. The Department will continue to support the development and promotion of Free State artists” said MEC Leeto.
