RTMC’S Anti-Corruption Unit swoop on two vehicle examiners in Soweto
Two examiners of vehicles stationed at the Orlando private Testing Station in Soweto, were arrested, Wednesday afternoon by members of the Road Traffic Management Corporation’s Anti-Corruption unit on allegations of fraud and corruption.
The examiners aged between 44 and 62 years, who their identities cannot be revealed until they appear before court were arrested for allegedly issuing fraudulent roadworthy certificates to vehicles that were not presented for the prescribed test.
The joint operation was conducted by the RTMC’s Anti-Corruption Unit, South African Police Services (SAPS), Gauteng special projects unit together with the Gauteng Traffic Compliance unit.
The suspects are currently detained at the Johannesburg central police station, and will appear at the Johannesburg Specialised Commercial Court this coming Friday. They are expected to face criminal charges relating to fraud and corruption.
The testing station was put under surveillance for over six months and the arrest confirms our suspensions. The investigations are on-going to further establish if more instances of fraud and corruption can be confirmed.
