Government corrects misleading information in City Press

The City Press, on 15 October 2017, published an article titled Treasury Capture wherein it also mentions the role of Cabinet. According to the content of the article: ‘Cabinet wants to appoint Chinese companies, without any bidding process, to finance and build the last two.’

Acting GCIS Director-General, Phumla Williams, said: “Cabinet does not deal with any procurement issues. Government departments have their own procurement processes which are guided by the Treasury Regulation and Practice Notes (circulars). The article is misleading as it seeks to create a narrative of Cabinet flouting procurement process and which goes against the government practices.”

Government departments, as they follow their own process with the support of Treasury guidelines, remains committed to a high level of compliance with the Supply Chain Management legal framework.
