North West welcomes the late Mama Ruth’s body

A resonant welcome service for the late Mama Ruth’s body in Vryburg 

The leadership of Bokone Bophirima Provincial Government has today joined the family of the late Mama Ruth Mompati and hundreds of communities from around Naledi Local Municipality in receiving the body of the struggle icon at her hometown, Vryburg.

Accompanying the body that was airlifted from Waterkloof Air Force Base in Pretoria to Vryburg was the family members who were received and joined by the Provincial Leadership for a short traditional welcome ceremony at home, before going to United Congregation Church of South Africa for a brief sermon. The body has been taken to a local mortuary.

Mama Ruth, as she was affectionately known, passed on at Second Military hospital early this week, aged 89.

President Jacob Zuma has yesterday declared a Special Official Funeral for Mama Ruth Mompati, who will be laid to her final resting place at Vryburg.
Premier Supra Obakeng Ramoeletsi Mahumapelo has this week committed the Provincial Government to working with the Presidency and National Government in ensuring that Mama Ruth is given a befitting funeral.
