Reconciliation road between Freedom Park and the Voortrekker Monument re-opens
The Managements of the Freedom Park and the Voortrekker Monument (private company without gain) announced last week that the access road linking the two sites that form the gateway to the city from the south, reopened today, 1 March 2016.
This is excellent news for visitors who wish to visit both sites without having to exit the one site and enter the other by using the cumbersome outer roads. It is also a re-affirmation of the Reconciliation initiatives that the two institutions have been implementing since 2006. The two institutions represent different facets of our collective history and heritage.
Construction was completed by June 2011 and the gate was officially opened by President Zuma on 16 December 2011.
