Free State Arts and Culture hosts Reconciliation Cultural Programme, 30 May

Reconciliation Cultural Programme to be held in Welkom

Delivering the 2017/18 Budget Vote Speech on behalf of the Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation MEC Mathabo Leeto stated that, “The Department formed part of a delegation of the Free State Government to Sao Paulo in Brazil to benchmark best practices that can grow the Free State economy.

As the department we have planned to organise a Reconciliation Carnival that will be hosted every year in December in Welkom, Lejweleputswa District. This Reconciliation Carnival will be dedicated to showcasing cultural tourism and serve as one of the important platforms to facilitate social cohesion, nation building and national identity.”

Preparations for the Reconciliation Carnival are already underway to ensure its successful staging in December and MEC Leeto has warmly received a delegation from Brazil as part of the preparations and exchanging ideas. In this regard MEC Leeto invites all members of the public to a cultural programme that will be presented to Brazilian guests who are currently in Welkom.

The Cultural programme is intended to give the Brazilian delegation a feel for the Free State Culture. As part of their itinerary they will visit the Basotho Cultural Village in Qwa Qwa and also be exposed to the other various cultures of the Free State such as Batswana, Griquas, Afrikaners and so on.

“We will partner with the Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs as well as the Free State Tourism Authority and Matjhabeng Local Municipality in staging this event” said MEC Mathabo Leeto in her 2017/18 Budget Vote.
