Rabies affects the brain and can be fatal if not treated immediately after contact with rabid animal. Symptoms include behavioural change, aggression, hallucinations and paralysis.
All pet owners are strongly advised to take responsibility and ensure protection of the community against rabies by:
- Encouraging all pet owners in the neighbourhood to vaccinate all pets against the deadly disease.
- Immediately visit local clinic or doctor if bitten or scratched by a dog, cat, or wild animal.
- Always stay away from stray animals
- Vaccinating all pets brought into Gauteng against rabies
