Witrand Hospital CEO Scoops Public Service Life Time Achiever Award

The Chief Executive Officer of Witrand Psychiatric Hospital situated in the North West Province within the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District in Potchefstroom Mrs. Naledi Lavinia Mocwaledi-Senyane has been awarded the Public Service Life Time Achievers Award at the National Batho Pele Excellence Awards that were hosted by the Ministry of Public Service on Friday 11 November 2016 at the Birchwood Hotel in Ekurhuleni.

With thirty seven years of unbroken selfless service within the North West Province Department of Health, Mrs Mocwaledi-Senyane began her career as a registered Nurse at the then George Stegman Hospital situated in Moruleng Within the Bojanala District and continued working in different clinics and facilities between Bojanala, Ngaka Modiri Molema and Dr Kenneth Kaunda District respectively pioneering improvement mechanisms both at health care facilities and Hospital environment.

As her career went on she joined the Kleksdorp-Tshepong hospital Complex as an Assistant Director Nursing services: Department of Orthopaedics in 2001 and through hard work, dedication and innovation within the Nursing services she then led the overall nursing services as Deputy Director Nursing services in 2005 at Klerksdorp-Tshepong hospital Complex.

Great achievement during this period was one of the improvements mechanisms is the Continuous Quality Improvement Projects (CQIP) for Deputy Director Nursing (DDN), which won the best performances prize for the Klerksdorp-Tshepong Complex Hospital. 

This prize was awarded by the National Office in 2009, for the process mapping introduced in pre, intra, and post-operative procedures in the theatres and all surgical units of the hospital complex. Her department was bestowed with several awards namely: Cecilia Makiwane Award and International Council of Nurses (ICN) Lilly Awards for best practices in MDR TB, which was an International Award for her staff.

In 2010 she became the first African female in the History of Witrand Hospital to be a Chief Executive Officer, a position she still holds to date. At the helm of her leadership at Witrand Hospital she has been successful in transforming and professionalising the Hospital while implementing service delivery initiatives making the hospital one of the best in the Province and the Country at large with awards from independent institutions to back it up. 

Time line of recent achievements by Witrand Hospital through her leadership:

  • 2011: Hospital became first Runner up in the Cleanest Hospital Competition (Provincially & Nationally)
  • 2013: Hospital named Die Gesonheid wat werk by Rapport (Documentary about the Hospital)
  • 2014: Number 1 out of 394 hospitals across South Africa that did well  in all the National Department of Health six ministerial directives.(Baseline Survey conducted) National Core Standards.
  • Cleanliness 100%, Infection Control Prevention 99%, Patient & Staff safety 97%,Staff Attitude 95%, Stock Availability 92%,Waiting times 82%.
  • 2015:  Best Managed Hospital by SAMA
  • 2015:  Board of Health Care funders of Southern Africa awarded the hospital Titanium award under the category – Health Facilities-Public Sector Excellence International Award.
  • 2016:  Public Service Life Time achievers award

“Life time achievers award is a culmination of the hard work that I have invested in the Public Service and honestly the successes were made possible by the teams that I have led in different successful projects that I have been part of in the broader Health care  services, this award came at a time where as a female African leader you are faced with huge challenges however one focuses  on being a determined leader with a specific focus of professionalizing the Public service and making an impact in the lives of the less fortunate whom are our patients.

On a lighter note I am humbled by the fact that my contribution and efforts were realized while I am still serving in the Public sector,” said the happy Naledi Lavinia Mocwaledi Senyane Chief Executive Officer Witrand Hospital

The Life Time Achievers Award is also the first one to be awarded to one of the employees within the Health Fraternity in North West Province. Mrs Naledi Mocwaledi-Senyane continues with her proactive nature of breaking barriers and rebuilding the public service in line with the National Development Plan while at Witrand Psychiatric Hospital.
