Public hearing in Kimberley: High level panel on assessment of key legislation and the acceleration of fundamental change wants to hear from you how have the laws of our democracy affected your life?
Media are invited to attend and cover the public hearing in Kimberley on Wednesday 21 September. It is the second in the series of public hearings planned for each of the nine provinces.

Place: Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre, 10 West Circular Road Kimberley
The panel, which former President Kgalema Motlanthe chairs, calls on the public to attend the hearing to talk about their experience of these laws. Have they made life better and how? Have there been problems with applying the laws? What gaps should be filled?
The panel’s focus areas are:
- Poverty, unemployment, inequality and equitable distribution of wealth
- Land reform and rural development
- Social cohesion and nation building
The Speakers’ Forum, which is a structure of the South African Parliament and the Provincial Legislatures, appointed the panel in January to assess the effectiveness of key legislation passed by Parliament and Provincial Legislatures since 1994.
It will do this through public consultations across the country and other research processes. The panel will also assess implementation of our laws, identify gaps and propose necessary interventions and recommendations. It is scheduled to submit its final report in August 2017, when the report will be launched at a media briefing.
