The KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni praised the joint multi-disciplinary operation which resulted in the arrest of four (04) dangerous criminals at Tongaat on Friday. Members of the Provincial Task Team, Organised Crime Unit, K9 Units and CAT received intelligence of the four suspects travelling in a VW Golf who had stolen a Toyota Hilux and were on their way to commit a robbery.
The information was operationalised and the suspects who were cornered on the N2 near Tongaat opened fire on police officers. One of the suspects was injured in the shootout. All four suspects were arrested will the assistance of the K9 Units. The two vehicles used by the suspects as well as a number of devices used to steal motor vehicles were recovered from the suspects. These men are alleged to be part of the notorious Williams Gang and are linked to a number of robberies across the Province.
“I want to congratulate all the members who were involved in this operation including our partners from the security companies who are part of project CAT. It is pleasing to note that such joint collaborations are bearing fruits and this is a wake call for criminals that their days are numbered. We will not tolerate thugs operating in such a manner in our province and we will ensure that we bring them to their knees through such partnerships,” she said.
