Police welcomes conviction of fraudster, Perfect Ngonyama

Pretoria criminal gets hefty jail time for multiple crimes

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has noted and welcomes yesterday's conviction and subsequent hefty sentence by the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court handed to a Pretoria man for multiple counts of fraud, theft of properties and identities.

Perfect Ngonyama, 31, was sentenced to an effective 22 years in jail after he was found guilty of three counts of fraud,  two counts of theft of motor vehicles, three counts of possession of  identity documents belonging to other people and three counts for defeating the ends of justice.

Ngonyama’s arrest and the hefty sentencing  was made possible by the hard work put in by members of the South African Police Service’s task team based at the airport, who first arrested him last year for the theft of a rented vehicle belonging to a company based at the OR Tambo International Airport. He claimed he was robbed of the vehicle and opened a false case at the Tembisa SAPS, something that was soon found out to be false.

At the time of the arrest he was found in possession of identity documents, drivers licenses and a hospital pathology bag.

Further investigations into how he came to possess all of these documents led the police to uncover his other crimes. Confronted with evidence, Ngonyama pleaded guilty to all charges brought against him.

The Acting National Commissioner of the SAPS, Lieutenant General Kgomotso Phahlane, has congratulated the team for their determination and commitment.
