President Zuma is not facing any charges
The Presidency rejects the misleading and opportunistic statement issued by the political party COPE following the dismissal of King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo's application for a bail extension by the Mthatha High Court.
COPE says that President Jacob Zuma should be prosecuted like King Dalindyebo. The article further insinuates that the President is manipulating the criminal justice system to avoid prosecution. This is a complete lie and serious fabrication.
There are no criminal charges pending against President Zuma. The charges against the President were withdrawn in 2009 by the then Acting National Director of Public Prosecutions. Saying the President must answer to some non-existent charges before court in light of the King Dalindyebo matter is opportunistic and mischievous.
The case that is currently pending before the court relates to the quest of one political party for a review of the decision of the Acting National Director of Public Prosecutions to withdraw the charges against the President. The President is one of the Respondents and he is cooperating with the courts in this matter.
