President Jacob Zuma will on Wednesday, 16 December 2015, address the National Day of Reconciliation commemoration event at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape.
The National Day of Reconciliation is observed annually on the calendar to unify formerly segregated communities and to build a socially coherent society in South Africa.
Commemorated under “Bridging the Divide: Building a Common South African Nationhood towards a National Developmental State”, the 2015 National Day of Reconciliation promotes and entrenches the following, amongst its principles:
- Constitutional democracy
- Non-racialism , non-tribalism and non-sexism
- Unity in Diversity
- Inclusive and social justice
- Redress and Transformation
- Intergroup and community co-operation
- Social Solidarity
- Active and participatory citizenry
- Civic Responsibility
- National Consciousness
