President Jacob Zuma has congratulated South African swimmer Mr Kevin Paul for winning South Africa’s first gold medal at the Rio 2016 Paralympics Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
He won the gold medal in the men's 100m breaststroke after he had touched the wall in 1:04.86 to hand Team South Africa their first medal at the Games. It is also the 25-year old athlete’s first gold medal for the country.
“South Africa is extremely proud of Kevin Paul for this remarkable achievement and we hope it will encourage his team mates and other young athletes representing the country in Rio to win more medals. We wish Team South Africa all the best and we also thank the people of South Africa for their continued support of our athletes,” said President Zuma.
