AU High Level Delegation to Burundi concludes visit

The High Level Delegation to Burundi, comprising five Heads of State and chaired by President Jacob Zuma, has successfully concluded its deliberations in Burundi, where they met the highest authorities including President Pierre Nkurunziza, leaders of political parties as well as religious and civil society leaders and urged them to work together to find an inclusive political solution to the current crisis.

Yesterday, the High Level Delegation met leaders of political parties, religious leaders and leaders of civil society of Burundi. Today, President Zuma led the High Level Delegation in meetings with former President Domitien Ndayizeye and President Nkurunziza respectively.

Members of the High Level Delegation are President Zuma, President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, President Macky Sall of the Republic of Senegal, President Ali Bongo Ondimba of the Republic of Gabon and Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.

“We have had very fruitful and robust meetings with a cross section of representatives of Burundi and we have just finished the last meeting with His Excellency President Nkurunziza. All decisions of the visit will be communicated through the appropriate channels in a Communique to be issued tomorrow,” said President Zuma.
