Special Cabinet meeting postponed to next month

The Special Cabinet meeting on the economy that was scheduled to take place today, 18 December 2015, in Pretoria has been postponed to take place after recess next month.

The Cabinet meeting of 9 December had taken a decision to convene a special cabinet session on the economy to intensively discuss the impact of the global economic crisis on the domestic economy and review the Nine Point Plan that was announced in the 2015 SONA ahead of the Cabinet lekgotla to be held next month.

The special meeting will now take place before the lekgotla in January 2016.

The preparatory meeting of the economic cluster that was to take place on 15 December was also postponed to the New Year.

The Nine Point includes the following:

a. Revitalisation of the agriculture and agro-processing value-chain;

b. Advancing beneficiation (adding value to our mineral wealth);

c. More effective implementation of a higher impact IPAP;

d. Unlocking the potential of SMME, co-operatives, township and rural enterprise;

e. Resolving the energy challenge;

f. Stabilising the labour market;

g. Scaling-up private-sector investment;

h. Growing the Ocean Economy;

i. Cross-cutting Areas to Reform, Boost and Diversify the Economy;

  •  Science, technology and innovation
  •  Water and sanitation
  •  Transport infrastructure
  •  Broadband rollout
  •  State owned companies
