Elderly people in Tswaing Local Municipality have expressed their happiness after having lunch and spending good time with Premier Supra Mahumapelo in his home village of Manamolela outside Delareyville yesterday, Sunday 20 December 2015.
Seventy-eight year-old David Moeti says they are appreciating the time that the Premier set aside to spend with the elderly around their municipality at the end of every year.
“We are very excited that our leader who comes from the very same village is showing us love and kindness by spending time with us.
This is a great moment for our community especially for us the aged because most people do not care about us,” he said.
Another elderly, Moipati Seemetseng, 73, said it was good to see leaders making effort to interact with the aged.
“It is really good to see our leaders who are our children caring for us elderly people because we also consider ourselves to be very important members of the community.
We thank the Premier for the wonderful work he is doing in our communities and wish him all the blessings,” she said.
Premier’s lunch with elderly people is an annual event which started last year in Manamolela.
Premier Mahumapelo said the event will take place annually without fail for the next four years.
“We are going to make sure that the event takes place here every year to show appreciation to the elderly because these are the same people who have raised us.
I am hosting the lunch with elderly people to tell people that we must not neglect our elders,” Premier Mahumapelo said.
The Department of Social Development also gave presents to all elderly people who came to the Premier’s lunch with elderly people.
Departmental MEC, Fenny Gaolaolwe said they will continue to give gifts such as blankets and food parcels during the event.
“We work with elderly people every year so it will also be fair to contribute by giving them gifts as a token of appreciation. We are giving our elderly people food parcels and blankets after having lunch with the Premier as part of our contribution,” she said.
