Premier SOR Mahumapelo commended the South African Police Service in Boons for a discovery of what appears to be a drug manufacturing laboratory and apprehension of a 54-year-old woman in the evening on Tuesday, 11 October 2016.
This is after the police who were on a routine rural safety patrol stopped at locked gates at one of the farms in Boons. According to information, two men were seen running away from the farm. The police managed to force entry into the farm wherein they discovered that drugs manufacturing activities were taking place. Drugs sludge were found being cooked on stoves while others were still in various drums. The police also found drugs suspected to be mandrax as well as other chemicals utilised to manufacture drugs, all worth estimated street value of over R1 million.
Subsequently, a 54-year-old woman who owns the property was arrested. She is expected to appear in the Koster Magistrates' Court soon where she will be facing a charges of Contravention of Section 2 of Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act, 1992 (Act No.140 of 1992).
“We congratulate the SAPS for their dedication and determination in the fight against crime as this contributes significantly to our efforts to rebrand, reposition and renew Bokone Bophirima” Said Mahumapelo. This is second major drugs success following the one in which the police in Kopfontein Port of Entry found drugs worth R70 million hidden in a false compartment of a truck that was entering South Africa from Botswana. The accused in this case are expected to appear in the Zeerust Magistrates' Court on Friday, 28 October 2016.
The Premier of Bokone Bophirima SOR Mahumapelo, lauded the SAPS for their efforts and determination in the fight against drug related crimes that are ruining the future of the youth. He said that the determination of the SAPS in intensifying the fight against crime and any other illegal activities including drug laboratories like this one, will go a long way in eliminating these illegal activities.
