Limpopo launches Women’s Month programme

Limpopo Provincial Government led by Premier, Chupu Stanley Mathabatha, will officially launch the Limpopo women’s month programme on the 1st August 2017, at Fetakgomo – Greater Tubatse Municipality, Leboeng village. This year 2017, women’s month will be celebrated under the theme; The year of OR Tambo: Women Uniting Together in Moving South Africa Forward.

Every year South Africa commemorates women’s month as a tribute to the more than 20 000 women who marched to the Union building on the 9th August 1956. The women were in protest against the extension of pass laws. The Limpopo Provincial Government takes this opportunity to acknowledge the crucial role women plays in our society.

The year 2017 marks the 61 anniversary of the women’s anti-pass march to the Union Buildings in 1956. In light of what is happening in the country the Provincial Government will use this opportunity to address issues currently faced by women and girls, that incudes; ritual killings, rape, gender oppression, patriarchy and sexism.
