Premier Supra Mahumapelo leads by example
As part of his State Of the Province Address on Friday 26 February 2016, the North West Premier Mr SOR Mahumapelo called on all leaders in society to strive to be role models and work hard to ensure that tax payers monies are used prudently.
Mahumapelo said leaders could learn from his example as he has forgone some of the government entitlements accompanying his responsibilities as part of saving the tax payers’ money.
The security assessment done at the guard house of the Premier’s residence required R500 000,00 and Mahumapelo elected not to utilise this benefit and instead paid for the guard house from his personal coffers.
He also pays for water and electricity used at the guard house from his personal coffers every month.
He avoids sleeping at expensive hotels, for instance when he is on official business at Sun City he does not sleep at the Lost City.
A generator was bought for him by government and he took a decision that the generator be donated to a clinic where it would be utilised to benefit members of the community.
“The current tough economic climate requires the entire society to do more with the little available public resources.” Mahumapelo concluded.
