The Premier of the North West province, Supra Mahumapelo has warned contractors who receive government tenders to finish their projects on time and not to do shoddy work.
Speaking after visiting three projects in the Taung Local Municipality on Saturday, Premier Mahumapelo said gone are the times of contractors doing sloppy work and dragging their feet.
“To those who have won tenders in government we are watching you, do you work and finish on time, our people are waiting for those projects. Those who think that they will do shoddy work and get away with it, they must think again. You will pay for you actions,” warned the Premier.
Mahumapelo visited two housing projects in Mogopela A and Nhole village, before visiting a toilet project in Khudutlou village.
Accompanied by the MEC for Local Government and Human Settlement, Fenny Gaolaolwe, Dikgosi, the Mayor of Taung Local Municipality, Kaone Lobelo, the Premier also handed over some of the completed houses to deserving beneficiaries.
He said his administration will be doing more monitoring of projects as the government wanted quality work that people of the province deserve. One of the beneficiaries of a furnished house was Onewang Tlhase who turned 106 years old on Saturday.
“I have been staying in a mud house for many years. I would like to thank government for the wonderful house they have given me today,” she said.
The Premier also visited an ongoing housing project in Mogopela A and interacted with the project contractor. Project contractor in Mogopela A, Floyd Ngwana said they are working tirelessly to make sure that the people finally receive their deserving houses.
“We are working hard every day to make sure that this housing project is completed well on time. We are expecting to complete it in September this year,” Ngwana explained.
Greater Taung local municipality mayor, Kaone Lobelo said they will continue to work closely with local government and human settlements department on the delivery of quality houses.
He said even though they received complains in the past, there were lot of improvements regarding the housing backlog in his municipality.
“We are fighting a backlog regarding housing projects and we are glad that our government is monitoring the delivery of quality houses in our municipality. Our people need more quality houses and as the municipality we will make sure that working with our provincial government we improve the livelihoods of our people,” Lobelo said.
