Premier Chupu Stanley Mathabatha launches 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children, 25 Nov

The Premier of Limpopo Province, Mr Chupu Stanley Mathabatha will on the 25th November 2017, at Zemankomste Village, Makhado Municipality launch 16 days of activism for no violence against women and children. The campaign seeks to raise awareness of the plight of many women and children who suffer violence as a regular occurrence. The Premier will launch 16 days of activism against women and children abuse on the 25th Novemeber, which is the International Day for no violence against women and children. The campaign which will end on the 10th of December 2017.

Violence against women and children has escalated tremendously in our country triggering social media campaigns such as the recent #ManAreTrash. The provincial government hopes to reduce and ultimately end the scourge of violence against women and children through this campaign.

The objectives of the 16 days of activism on No Violence Against Women and Children programme are:

  • To encourage community involvement in initiatives to combat crimes against women and children;
  • To communicate governments substantive programmes and priority actions to deal with the challenges of women and child abuse.
  • To create awareness about gender based violence and child directed abuse at grass roots level by bringing the 16 days of activism campaign closer to the people.

The event is targeting 1000 stakeholders from government, business, and faith based organisations, youths, and civil society. All stakeholders will sign a pledge to commit to the effective implementation of the programme.

In launching 16 days of activism  Limpopo Provincial Government will all join millions of people nationwide to say no to violence against women and children abuse. The launch will be used to reflect on progress, achievements and challenges still faced in the effort to prevent and end violence against women and children. The campaign this year will be launched under the theme: Count Me in: Moving a Non-Violent South Africa Forward.
