As at 1pm on 27 September 2021, the Western Cape had 7 810 active COVID-19 infections, with a total number 518 216 COVID-19 cases to date and 490 718 recoveries.

By 5pm on 26 September 2021, the Western Cape Government had administered a cumulative total of 2 769 006 vaccines to healthcare workers, staff in the education sector and those within eligible age brackets.
The current 7-day moving average is 35 deaths per day.

Western Cape Government encourages those aged 50+ to get vaccinated
The Western Cape Government, through its Provincial Department of Health, is encouraging those 50 years and older, especially, to make use of their vaccine opportunity and get vaccinated.
Data shows us that those aged 50 years and older are at higher risk of getting severely ill, being hospitalised and dying if they contract COVID-19. That is why we want to get at least 70% of this group fully vaccinated before the end of the year.
Where do we currently stand?
By 26 September, 502 996 or nearly 70% of those 60 years and older had registered to be vaccinated. To date, 96% of those registered have already received at least one dose of their vaccine. This includes:
- 421 895 or 58.6% who have already been fully vaccinated; and
- 64 009 or 8.9% who are partially vaccinated.
This is good progress and we remain on track to reach 70% fully vaccinated by December.
Of those between 50-59 years, 367 836 have registered for their vaccine or just under 54% of the eligible population. This is not yet near our target of 70% for this group, which is worrying. This group is at high risk and so getting the vaccinated is incredibly important.
I therefore strongly urge all residents over 50 to please go to their nearest site to get vaccinated. You do not need to register beforehand. We will help you at the site as a walk-in.
The vaccine offers great protection against severe COVID-19 illness and death, and will save lives and jobs in the Western Cape.
