Premier Ace Magashule meets Free State artists, 6 Dec

The Premier of the Free State, Ace Magashule and the MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Mathabo Leeto, will host artists from across the Province in order to afford them an opportunity to share their views with regards to Arts & Culture programmes in the Province. The event will be used as an opportunity to hear the challenges faced by artists and develop ways to mitigate them. It is anticipated that over 700 artists will attend this meeting.

At the meeting the Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation will give artists a sneak preview of the new booklet profiling Free State artists. This booklet will profile the top-line artists in the different arts and culture genres, viz:

  • Performing Arts (Music; Poetry; Theatre; Drama; Comedy; Dance)
  • Visual Arts (Painting; Drawing; Sculpting; Ceramics) and
  • Craft (Pottery; Wirework; Candle Work; Sewing; Beads; Leather work and wood sculpting).

The booklet will also include a database of active practicing artists in each District. This will thus enable the Province to proactively interact with and promote local artists in a well-coordinated manner. In addition, the booklet will contain information on independent producers and directors, applicable funding bodies as well as contact details of major festivals in Free State and South Africa. All local artists are welcomed to attend in order to register to be included in the database.

This exercise is intended to expose local artists to opportunities that are available for them to practice their craft and showcase their artistic abilities. The Department will facilitate an interactive session on activities, initiatives and programmes aimed at artists’ development.

The meeting will take place as follows:
Date: 06 December 2015
Time: 10h00
Venue: Kroonstad Civic Theatre (Kroonstad)
