Free State Premier. Hon. Ace Magashule wishes to congratulate South African athlete Wayde van Niekerk on his sterling performance at the 2016 Olympics which are currently taking place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil;
Wayde van Niekerk clinched a new world record of 43.03 seconds in the 400 meters World Championships, crushing Michael Johnson’s 1999 record of 43.18 seconds;
Born in Cape Town on 15 July 1992, van Niekerk moved to study at Grey College and went to study Marketing at the University of the Free State, which are both in Bloemfontein;
On behalf of the Free State provincial government and the people of the Free State, I wish to congratulate van Niekerk for representing both the country and the province very well at the Olympics;
