Polokwane High Court hands down heavy sentence
The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nneke Jim Ledwaba has welcomed the heavy sentences that were handed to a notorious criminal by the High Court in Polokwane for a series of crimes. He also commended the team of FCS Detectives who worked tirelessly to secure this harsh sentence.
Kgabo Jonas Moshabi aged 44 of Ga-Legodi village in Moletjie outside Polokwane was sentenced to an effective consolidated jail term of 447 years and 22 life terms for 65 counts of crime incidents that are categorized as follows: he was given life terms for each of the 21 counts of rape, 10 years imprisonment for each of 12 counts Housebreaking and Rape. 11 counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances to 15 years imprisonment each and 6 counts of housebreaking and theft to 15 years imprisonment each, 4 counts of possession of firearm without licence to 4 years imprisonment each, 4 counts of possession of ammunition without licence to 2 years imprisonment each, 1 count of assault to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH) to 2 years imprisonment ,1 count of malicious damage to property to 2 years imprisonment, 04 counts of attempted murder to 20 years imprisonment, 2 counts murder to life imprisonment.
The accused was terrorising community members in Moletjie and the surrounding areas under the reign of terror between August 2005 and January 2012. He was roaming around these areas during the night breaking into houses, raping and robbing his victim's from various items including attacking and injuring them during which two victims died. The victims are aged between 16 and 79 years old. The accused was further declared unfit to possess a firearm and he will be registered in the National Register for Sex Offenders.
