Operation Fiela successes: Kuruman
On Wednesday, 1 July 2015, SAPS Kuruman cluster members and their local policing units, including the Department of Home Affairs, Municipal and Provincial Traffic Departments, Community Policing Forum and the Youth Against Crime desk conducted an integrated operation within the Kuruman cluster.
The operation focused on illicit drugs, contraband/illegal goods and products, human trafficking, illegal firearms and other related offences. During the operation about 2000 crime awareness pamphlets were handed out to residents as well as commuters in the CBD. The awareness focussed on theft out of/from motor vehicles.
An alleged drug outlet was searched in Arcacia Street and the following successes were achieved during the operation:
- 20 people arrested for trespass
- 1 undocumented person
- 1 arrest for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm
- 1 person fined for driving a motor vehicle without a licence.
The ‘clean up’ operation was welcomed by the public who also assisted by providing information about crime and criminals in the area. On Thursday, 2 July 2015, police received information from the community about possible theft out of/from motor vehicle suspects. Information was followed up and 2 suspects were arrested. These suspects may be linked to crimes committed in Kuruman, Kathu, Vryburg, Postmasburg and Kimberley.
