Police on Abalone found on N2 route opposite Lwandle

This morning (Tuesday, 2016-10-04) at about 05:30, K9 Police members were busy with their normal patrol duties when they spotted a suspicious black Mazda Double Cab LDV, travelling in the direction of Cape Town opposite Lwandle Policing Precinct. 

Members immediately followed the vehicle, pulled it over at the corners of Overwagcht and N2. Soon after bringing the vehicle to a stop the driver fled the scene. Four thousand seven hundred and seven (4707) units of Abalone were found in black plastic bags inside the LDV, and handed in at SAPS.

An investigation is underway.

Four suspects arrested for possession of abalone and cryfish tails in Gordons Bay

This morning (Tuesday 2016-10-04 at about 07:50) members of Gordon’s Bay Police and Sea Fisheries reacted on the information received about a white Ford Bantam LDV transporting Abalone  traveling on the N2 route opposite Gordons Bay policing precinct, direction Cape Town. 

The members immediately reacted on the information received and managed to locate the motor vehicle fitting the same description with four suspects. The vehicle was pulled over and upon searching the vehicle members found and confiscated 695 units of Crayfish tails and 31 Abalone units contained in black plastic bags.

The estimated street value amount of Abalone is R1 000 - 00 and the Cray fish tails is R13 000.00

Four suspects between the ages of 24 and 30 were arrested.

A case of Possession of Abalone and Crayfish tails was opened. All the four suspects will appear in the Strand Magistrate court soon.

Another 1648 units Abalone was also confiscated by Gordons Bay police this morning at about 06:40.

It is alleged that suspects were travelling on the N2 opposite Gordons Bay when their green BMW vehicle experienced some difficulty, and they left it on the side of the road.

A traffic official travelling on the N2 saw the suspect’s motor vehicle and approached them. Another motor vehicle just moved from the scene and sped away. Two suspects also run away on foot and hid themselves in the forest. The traffic officer alerted the Gordons Bay Police who came to assist in searching for the suspects but they were not found.   

An enquiry case was opened.

All the Abalone with the estimated value of R600 000 was confiscated as well as the vehicle.
