Premier Supra Mahumapelo on plans to revitalise economic activities

Plan to revitalise North West province economy bolstered

The North West Province has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Public Enterprise, which seeks to aid the province achieve its Rebranding, Repositioning and Renewal strategy.

According to Premier Supra Mahumapelo who was briefing the media yesterday, central to the presentation made by the Deputy Minister of Public Enterprise Mr Bulelani Magwanishe at the recent EXCO sitting, was the role the department was planning to play in revitalising the province’s economic activities.

Premier Mahumapelo told the media that amongst the key projects the department will work with the province on are the following:

  • Intensification of youth empowerment and skills development programmes
  • Detailed economic programme for development of Villages, Townships and Small Dorpies, with a special focus on the revitalisation of the rail network
  • Development of Mahikeng airport into a cargo airport.

“We are pleased by the commitment demonstrated by the department of Public Enterprise in helping us achieve our RRR strategy, and in particular, the goal we have set to grow our economy. We believe that other public and private stakeholders will continue to express their interest in partnering with us, to give meaning to the saamtrek-saamwerk philosophy”, said Premier Mahumapelo.
