Water and Sanitation on strengthening insights on water sector

PC on Water & Sanitation engaging in a workshop to strengthen insights on the water sector

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee (PC) on Water and Sanitation is currently engaging in an intense three-day water sector workshop in a bid to strengthen its understanding and insights into the sector. The discussions started on 14 September and will continue until today, Friday 16 September and are being held in Johannesburg under the theme "Water at the centre of job creation, poverty eradication and eradication of inequality".

Issues taking centre stage at this sitting include those of overview of water institutional arrangements and mandates, equitable water allocations, water resources planning, infrastructure development and management as well as water conservation and demand management.

Delegates from various water sector stakeholders attending the workshop include the Water Research Commission (WRC), National Planning Commission, Chamber of Mines and the South African Local Government Association, amongst others.

According to the Chairperson of the PC on Water and Sanitation, Mr Mlungisi Johnson, this workshop more than anything, seeks to bring together experts in the sector with the committee's members. This is so they can engage in meaningful discussions and collectively find solutions to the backlogs.
