Parliament notes Interim Fees Commission report

Committee wishes students well with exams, notes interim fees commission report

The Portfolio Committee on Higher Education has wished students sitting their end-of-year examinations well and urged students to make good use of what is left of the year.

The Chairperson of the Committee, Ms Connie September, said higher education is a precious gift any nation should not be ashamed to give to its children. “The Committee wishes the students well, while acknowledging the challenges they have experienced in the past two years. The struggle for fees is one that requires collaborative efforts from all those involved in the sector,” Ms September said.

Many universities last week confirmed finishing lectures and their readiness to begin examinations.

Ms September said the Committee also noted the handing over of the Commission of Inquiry into Higher Education and Training’s interim report to the President. “This is a good and encouraging move to establish whether or not the country can afford free education for all. We look forward to be apprised of the contents thereof and trust that this will take us towards a sustainable path for higher education and training,” she said.
