Sport Committee Chairperson Congratulates Star Cricketer Temba Bavuma

The Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Sport and Recreation, Ms Beauty Dlulane, congratulates outstanding batsman Temba Bavuma for making history with his maiden Test century yesterday in the South Africa vs England Test series at Newlands Stadium.

“Temba Bavuma is the first black South African cricketer to score a Test century. Bavuma’s performance has made us proud as a nation as he has proven that the transformation agenda in sport is necessary to ensure that our national teams are inclusive of the diverse talent we have in this country,” says Ms Dlulane.

She added: “Bavuma’s performance yesterday has united us a country and has again shown the power of sport in uniting us as a nation. His performance should serve as an inspiration to other black players who are still in the developing stages of cricket”.

“I would like to also congratulate the Proteas Captain, Hashim Amla for hitting a double century yesterday and wish the Proteas well as they continue to play against England for the Basil D’Oliveira Trophy.”
