Free State Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation hosts public speaking and debate sessions ahead of Casual Day, 25 Aug

OR Tambo centenary debate

The Free State Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation through the Free State provincial museums services will be hosting Public Speaking and Debate Sessions ahead of Casual Day under the theme “OR Tambo Centenary: Social Integration Through People with Disabilities in Realisation of an Inclusive Society.”

Casual Day has become an excellent opportunity for corporate team building, whilst also making a contribution to one of the country’s most vulnerable sectors of society; persons with disabilities.

The event will be attended by participants from Bartemia Special School, Pholoho Special School, Tswellang Special School, CUT disability structure, Motheo TVET disability structure and the representatives for people with disabilities in the community.

The event will take place as follows:

Date: 25 August 2017
Time: 10h00
Venue: Old Presidency Museum, Mangaung

The programme will be officially opened with the National Anthem and the debates/public speaking competitions will be held amongst the various schools and youth organisations during the day on different categories.

“It is our responsibility as a department to engage young people in critiquing, challenging, and shaping the world around them. Museums offer unique spaces for having complex conversations about contemporary ideas that cannot often take place in other spaces such as schools.

In celebrating the legacy of O.R Tambo we encourage robust debates and the contestation of ideas among our youth” said Free State MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation Me Mathabo Leeto.
