Premier Ace Magashule leads intensive Operation Hlasela outreach programme in Bothaville

Since 2009, the Free State provincial government has unleashed service delivery programmes in various towns in the Free State, as part of its Operation Hlasela Outreach Programme.

Operation Hlasela seeks to achieve maximum impact from service delivery by bringing all government resources to a targeted area for improving the lives of the people.

On Wednesday, 22 June 2016, the Premier , the Executive Council, the leadership of Nala Local Municipality and Members of the Provincial Legislature descended upon the small town of Bothaville, in the Nala Local Municipality.

Bothaville, a small farming town with an estimated population of about 46 000 people, is also affected by high unemployment like many of our small towns.

Characteristic of all Operation Hlasela Outreach Programme, the advanced team was sent to conduct profiling of the area a month ago, and were required to report regularly on their findings, as well as prescribe possible solutions to the challenges found.

The team identified problems that require short, medium and long term solutions.

The profiling process was expedited through massive door-to-door interactions with members of the community, inspection of infrastructure, assessment of businesses that required assistance and other methods.

A group of young people, who began a car wash enterprise in 2008, received support from the Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs.

The Soweto Car Wash, situated in the Kgotsong residence, was transformed from a survivalist, tent-like structure into a state of the art, plush business with industrial facilities.

“We are thankful to Premier Ace Magashule and the government. We will work hard to grow our business to ensure that we establish new branches, and employ more people” – said 25 years old Sello Matitjane, one of the co-owners of Soweto Car Wash.

The community of Kgotsong in Bothaville was exhilarated when the newly-built Letlotlo Naledi Promary School was officially opened.

The school boasts superb facilities like Maths, Science and Computer Laboratories, a library and excellent active learning offerings.

The community of Matlharantlheng, a formerly informal settlement which now has basic services like water, will in the next few months develop into a residential areas which affords dignity to its residents, thanks to the Oparation Hlasela Service Delivery Programme.

102 years old Nkgono Malitaba Anna Moema of House 859 in Kgotsong used to live in a ‘sekgele’ house. The structure will be subdivided to have 2 bedrooms, a kitchen and a lounge and be a comfortable residence for her and her family.

The main objective of Operation Hlasela is to use government’s limited resources, together with private resources, to enhance the socio-economic conditions of the people in our towns.

In his address to the community, Premier Ace Magashule, a teacher by profession, urged the community to safeguard the school and never resort to destruction of public property.

“Education is the future of this country. Do not burn schools for in doing so, you will be destroying the future of this country” – Premier Ace Mgashule said.
