Free State Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation opens Master Nakedi Indoor Sport Centre, 15 Jul

The Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation is proud to announce that the newly constructed Master Nakedi Indoor Sport Centre will be officially opened in Tumahole, Parys as part of the department’s quest to transform Sport and Recreation infrastructure landscape in across the province.

The Master Nakedi Indoor Sport Centre has been developed to cater for the sporting needs of the local community and its sophisticated new facilities will be utilized for various purposes such as hosting sporting and cultural events. A Total amount of R35 million was spent for its construction. The sport codes that can be played at this Indoor Sport Centre include Netball, Basketball, Indoor Soccer, Aerobics, and many other indoor sporting codes. The Indoor Sport Centre also includes a gym area.

This Indoor Sport Centre is named after the late freedom stalwart Master Nakedi who played a crucial role as an activist in advancing the course of liberation in and around Tumahole, Parys. As part of the infrastructure rollout of the Department across the province, the department has already constructed and opened the Fezile Dabi Stadium in Tumahole. The Fezile Dabi stadium has been developed to cater for the sporting needs of the Tumahole community in Parys. The stadium was built at a cost of R98,000,000.00. The stadium was built to host soccer matches and also has an indoorconference facility. This 15000 seat stadium enables the Tumahole community to host large soccer matches, sport and cultural events.

The opening of Master Nakedi Indoor Sport Centre is an additional facility that will also benefit the local community.

“The development of sport infrastructure across the province is important because one of the mandates we derive from the National Development Plan (NDP) as the Department relates to using sport and recreation to promote social cohesion. The construction of this indoor sport centre includes various facilities such as a gym area, media room, change rooms, offices, security office, store rooms, kitchen, medical room, technical officials change rooms, 604 spectator seats, covered and open parking inclusive of disability parking, built-in PA system” said MEC N.S. Leeto.
